At the 2003 National Convention, the NPM Council
approved a number of membership goals initiated by the NPM Board
of Directors. Key among these goals is the need for chapters and
standing committees to ascertain and develop strategies for increasing
membership. NPM members are encouraged to offer membership strategies.
Ad hoc committees have met, either in person or electronically,
to discuss topics as varied as life memberships, a simpler membership
form, better recruiting assistance from diocesan directors of music
or worship offices, ecumenical conventions, design of Pastoral
Music magazine, and development and distribution of promotional
materials.
As the membership committee is one of the newer
committees, its goals and activities remain somewhat flexible. It
is truly a committee that would benefit from the knowledge and passion
of those individuals who are committed to welcoming all into NPM.
