Cantor Certification Programs

Cantor Certificate Convention On-Site Adjudications

Wednesday, July 31, 5:00–8:00 pm and Thursday, August 1, 12:00 n–3:00 pm

  • Cantors may complete requirements for all the NPM Cantor Certificates during the 2013 Annual Convention. A limited number of candiates will be accepted.
  • Basic Cantor Certificate (BCC) applicants are required to attend Breakout A-15 on Tuesday morning during which the written exam of 5-10 minutes will be administered.
  • The singing portion—and additional testing for other certificates—will be offered on Wednesday, July 31, 5:00–8:00 pm and Thursday, August 1, 12:00 noon–3:00 pm.
  • Note: The Cantor Colleague Certificate (CCC) Liturgy Exam cannot be offered on-site.
  • Full convention registration is required to apply for BCC or CCC at convention.

There are two cantor certificate programs available to cantors:

1. Basic Cantor Certificate (BCC)
(This certificate currently offered in English only, however preparations are underway to offer this certificate in Spanish in the near future.)
The Basic Cantor Certificate is a means to recognize the achievement of fundamental skills expected of cantors. This certificate marks the first stage in the NPM certificate program for cantors.

2. NPM Cantor Colleague Certificate
(This certificate currently offered in English only, however preparations are underway to offer this certificate in Spanish in the near future.)
Cantor Colleague Certificate is a means to recognize the achievement of advanced skills expected of psalmists and cantors. This certificate marks the second stage in the NPM certificate program for cantors.

  • Future Liturgy exams: Friday, June 14, 2013 (application must be  postmarked by May 14) and Friday, December 13, 2013 (application must be  postmarked by November 13)
    Candidates will receive the exam questions by e-mail on the day of the exam and will be required to return their responses by email.
