SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME C Lectionary #81

How do believers behave? David offers an example, Jesus lists some examples, and the psalm sings of God's mercy.

Today is the last Sunday before the Church sets aside the Alleluia and the Gloria for its annual Lenten observance beginning on Ash Wednesday. Let the whole assembly join today in joyful alleluias to celebrate the paschal mystery of Christ's victory over sin and death in anticipation of the coming Easter celebration, just over forty days away.

1 Samuel 26:2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23. By his example, David shows his faith in God and in God's working through human institutions. He also reveals compassion by his decision not to kill Saul.

Psalm of the Day: Ps (102) 103 . Praise God's mercy, for God forgives our iniquity.

1 Corinthians 15:45-49. Through the examples of Adam and Christ, Paul is trying to explain how we creatures born of earth will be allowed to share in heavenly glory. We will become the “image of the heavenly one.”

Luke 6:27-38. Jesus proclaims the very difficult morality of the kingdom of God : “Love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back . . . and you will be children of the Most High.”
