God is doing something new: In Christ, we share in the divine life, expressed especially in the power to forgive sins and to share the divine mercy.
Isaiah 43:16-21. Drawing on the ancient story of the Exodus, the prophet reassures the people at a time of great danger and suffering that they “ain't seen nothin' yet.”
Psalm of the Day: Ps (125) 126. A communal lament. Recalling God's mighty deeds in the past, the people ask God to remember such divine intervention on their behalf as the motive for taking action now.

Philippians 3:8-14. All the mystics have made a similar point: Once you experience salvation through Christ and are aware how free a gift it is, given without consideration for anything we might have done, you realize that it alone is worth holding on to.
John 8:1-11. The story of the woman caught in adultery is a story of great compassion and divine forgiveness. After all, the woman was caught in the act (presumably, with a man who got away!). She was guilty, yet Jesus convinced the crowd not to punish her as the Torah required, and then he forgave her sin.
