FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER C Lectionary #54
God, in Christ, has made all things new. Love that reaches beyond any borders we can erect is a sign of this new creation.

Acts 14:21-27. A summary of the return leg of Paul's and Barnabas's mission that has reached out successfully to the Gentiles.

Psalm of the Day: Ps 145
This poem is a song of praise for God's mighty deeds; it hails God as king, using a phrase—“God's kingdom” or “God's dominion”—that Jesus used to describe the new thing that God was planning for humanity.

Revelation 21:1-5a. The author of Revelation translates the hope for God's kingdom into the vision of a “new Jerusalem” as “God's dwelling with the human race.” The divine presence transforms heaven and earth: “Behold, I make all things new.”

John 13:31-33a, 34-35. In this part of the Last Supper discourse, Jesus proclaims that he will share in the divine “glory,” and he begins to transform humanity through the “new commandment”: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you should love . . .” not me, but “one another.” This love is the sign of discipleship.
