FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER C Lectionary #51
On this “Good Shepherd Sunday,” the readings focus on that part of the flock who are like a wild vine grafted onto the good stock of Judaism: the Gentile converts to Christianity. In other words: most of us.
Acts 13:14 , 43-52. This recounting of events in Antioch in Pisidia illustrates why Paul began preaching to Gentiles or, more specifically, to Gentile converts to Judaism. Not surprisingly, his teaching about Jesus and Jesus' interpretation of Torah was considered heresy by most Jews. Gentile converts, however, heard that the covenant made by God with the Jews was now open to all people on the basis of faith in Jesus.
Psalm of the Day: Ps (99) 100
This hymn of praise calls on Israel and all the nations to praise God.

Revelation 7:9, 14b-17. John's vision of heavenly worship also includes the group of martyrs who “have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” This image was very important for a church undergoing persecution, as John's communities were: Their suffering would be rewarded personally by God, who would “shelter them” and keep them from all further suffering.
John 10:27-30. All who hear the Shepherd's voice will share eternal life. “No one can take them out of my hand.”
