FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Lectionary #105

How familiar are we with the Scriptures? Is the Word of God “in your mouth and in your heart”? Is it familiar enough that you know how to carry it out, apply it in daily experience? If not, what will you do about that?

Deuteronomy 30:10–14. Moses tells the people that the heart of the Torah is not complex. It is simple, and they know it. All they have to do is carry it out.

Psalm of the Day: Ps (68) 69

Today's text comes at the end of a long psalm in which the psalmist, accused of theft, appeals to God for help. In the end, he invites all who are unjustly accused (the “lowly ones”) to put their trust in God.

Colossians 1:15–20. Paul draws on an early Christian hymn to summarize his teaching.

Luke 10:25–37. In the parable of the good Samaritan, Jesus applies the teachings of the Torah to everyday life. When his questioner gets the point of the story, Jesus tells him: “Go and do likewise.”
