What limits do we set on the Spirit? How do we try to confine God by the structures we embrace, the walls we erect?

Numbers 11:25-29. God works beyond the limits of human expectation to share the divine spirit with those who are chosen. Eldad and Medad are reminders that we do not control God’s actions.

Psalm of the Day: Ps (18) 19
Drawing from the second part of this psalm, we sing the praises of the Torah, the word of God that gives us wisdom.

James 5:1-6. A judgment against the rich, who have built up their treasure by denying justice to the harvesters of their fields. This condemnation is as harsh as anything found in the prophets.

Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48. The disciples consider themselves the “in-crowd,” the only ones deputed to preach and act in Jesus’ name. In response, Jesus tells them to consider the way people act. Whether a member of the in-crowd or not, if someone causes a “little one” to sin, it would be better for such a person to suffer death immediately. On the other hand, anyone who lives in the pattern that Jesus preaches cannot be “against us.”
