TWENTIETH SUNDAY B Lectionary #119
The bread of life is found in Christ, whose “flesh is true food and [whose] blood is true drink.” This may be a good day to focus on the presence of Christ in the sacramental elements of bread and wine. Reflecting on the call to action in the first two readings, it may also be a day to connect Eucharist with faithful living in the rest of life.
Proverbs 9:1-6. Wisdom is presented as the hostess of a great feast offered to all who lack understanding.
Psalm of the Day: Ps (33) 34

Ephesians 5:15-20. Not only should we try to “understand what is the will of the Lord,” we should put it into practice in all of our life—a goal expressed in our common “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.”
John 6:51-58. Jesus’ audience seems to take what he says about his flesh quite literally. Jesus responds by seeming to repeat and emphasize what he said, but its expansion in terms of life (“The living Father sent me and I have life . . . so also the one who feeds on me will have life”) suggests that this may be a good occasion to address the sacramental (and not literal) understanding of the Eucharist.
