SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION Lectionary #58A
(In many U.S. dioceses, this solemnity is transferred to—and replaces—the Seventh Sunday of Easter.) "Exaltation" language, drawn especially from the "enthronement" psalms and from the legends of Moses and Elijah, may be the oldest language used by Christians to try to interpret the resurrection. Especially in Luke's two-volume work (the Gospel and Acts) this "exaltation" of the risen Christ is given physical form as the ascension.
Acts 1:1-11. How much does our faith depend on physical signs? Do we stand “looking at the sky,” or do we recognize that we have work to do until Christ returns?
Psalm of the Day: Ps (46) 47
One of the “enthronement” psalms, which many commentators believe were used during a special ritual in which YHWH was honored as the king of all creation and the royal savior of Israel.

Ephesians 1:17-23. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in believers to help us recognize our hope, our heritage, and the power that is at work in us.
Matthew 28:16-20. Matthew’s account of the ascension includes the commission to baptize with the same Trinitarian formula that we still use.
