Malachi 1:14–2:2, 8–10. The prophet castigates the people in exile because they forgot God, their Lord and teacher, and they ignored the Torah. They break faith with one another because they have broken faith with God’s Law.

Psalm of the Day: Psalm (130) 131
One of the shortest and most beautiful psalms in the psalter; we sing the whole psalm today. The first two verses stand in contrast: The psalmist admits (through negatives) to a former haughty self-reliance, but now (verse two) is willing to rest in God. The final verse is a later “liturgical” conclusion.

Suggested Common Psalm:  Ps (94) 95

If Today You Hear His Voice

1 Thessalonians 2:7–9, 13. Paul’s example serves as a reminder that the Gospel is not mere words; it must be put into action. We must be the Gospel we preach.

Matthew 23:1–12. Using the example of those who do not practice what they preach, Jesus reminds his listeners that God’s word is the foundation of our lives. We need to conform every action to God’s will.
