2008 Academic Scholarships
$34,000 in Available Scholarships

The following scholarships will be awarded to assist with the cost of education formation for pastoral musicians. The deadline for scholarship applications is March 7, 2008.

NPM Members’ Scholarship ($3,500)
NPM Perrot Scholarship ($3,500)
NPM Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo Scholarship ($2,000)
NPM Koinonia Scholarship ($2,000)
NPM Board of Directors Scholarship ($2,000)
MuSonics Scholarship ($3,000)
Paluch Family Foundation/WLP Scholarship ($2,500)
OCP Scholarship ($2,500)
GIA Pastoral Musicians Scholarship ($2,000)
University of Notre Dame Folk Choir Scholarship ($1,250)
Funk Family Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
Dosogne/Rendler-Georgetown Chorale Scholarship ($1,000)
Dan Schutte Scholarship ($1,000)
Fr. Lawrence Heiman, CPPS Scholarship ($1,000)
Steven C. Warner Scholarship ($750)
NPM Scholarships also provide $500 toward the $1,000 Rensselaer Challenge Grant administered by the Rensselaer Program of Church Music and Liturgy at Saint Joseph College, Rensselaer, Indiana.


Eligibility Requirements

  • NPM membership
  • Part-time or full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program of studies related to the field of pastoral music during the 2008-2009 school year
  • Scholarship funds may be applied only to registration, tuition, fees, or books
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Applicant should intend to work at least two years in the field of pastoral music following graduation/program completion
Scholarships are awarded for one year only; a former recipient may re-apply but should not assume that renewal is automatic


Application Deadline & Procedure

Deadline: Application must be postmarked by March 7, 2008
Applicants can expect to receive notice about the committee’s decision by May 30, 2008 . The scholarship recipients should expect to receive their checks in person during an NPM convention or via mail by August 31, 2008.


How to Apply

Submit the following four (4) items:

  1. A letter or short essay containing the following information:
    a) Name & contact information: address, home & work phone, and e-mail
    b) Your definition of the term “pastoral musician”
    c) Description of your talents
    d) Your previous experience as pastoral musician
    e) Your educational background
    f) Educational program where you will be/are enrolled. (please include: name of college/university, degree pursued or continuing education program, full or part-time status and major and/or minor fields of study)
  2. A recording (cassette or CD format) that demonstrates your solo performance skills or those of an ensemble under your direction. The recording should be approximately 5 minutes in length. The CD must identify the piece or pieces on the recording and the performer(s.)
  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation, including one written by your pastor.
  4. Completed Financial Need Statement (pdf file).
