We gather in Detroit
to proclaim harmony in the face of discord and division,
to sing hope, in the face of fear and uncertainty. |

"The joys and hopes, the grief and anguish of the people of our time, especially of those who are poor or afflicted, are the joys and hopes, the grief and anguish of the followers of Christ as well.”

Come to Detroit
Detroit is a great place to celebrate “hope and harmony,”
especially in these days of economic hardship. One of
America’s great cities, Detroit is a place where the domestic
automobile industry helped to establish the American
middle class, where the artists of Motown created a classic
American sound, and where economic conditions today
challenge people to embrace the message of hope. As we
gather for the 2010 NPM National Convention, we join
the people of Detroit along with their civic and church
leaders in looking hopefully to the future.
Downtown Detroit is a great meeting place. Major
events will take place at the spacious Cobo Center.
Hotel accommodations and other convention activities
will be located in and around Detroit’s well known
Renaissance Center, almost a city in itself. There are plenty of restaurant options in the downtown area for
every taste and budget. Check out the area’s many attractions,
including the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and
Museum, the Motown Historical Museum, the Henry
Ford Museum, and Greenfield Village. The internationally
minded can also visit Windsor, Ontario, just across the
river. Detroit is the only major city in the United States
that looks south to Canada!
Come to Detroit for practical hands-on learning, stimulating
ideas, vibrant sung prayer, spiritual reflection, exhibits
of music and ministry resources, and much more. Come
and gather with colleagues and friends, new and old.
Musicians, clergy, liturgists, and other leaders of worship—anyone who loves the liturgy and its music—won’t
want to miss this exciting event! |

Got Pix?
As at past conventions, in Detroit we will be projecting images of our members, their liturgical assemblies, special celebrations, choirs, instrumentalists, cantors, presiders,
deacons, other music ministers, and singing congregations. We prefer high-resolution digital images (jpg or tiff). Please submit your pictures as e-mail attachments to: NPMPeter@npm.org. Send photo disks (Windows
or Mac format) or prints to: Peter Maher, Program Coordinator, National Association of Pastoral Musicians, 962 Wayne Avenue, Suite 210, Silver Spring, MD 20910-4461.
Please note that, in addition to their use at the convention, some of these images may also be used in NPM publications. If you do not wish your photos to be used beyond the display at the Detroit Convention, please let us know that when you send them.
